Description : Moi, Jean Cafiou, paysan berrichon, je ne voudrais pas quitter ce monde sans laisser un souvenir de moi, sans raconter ce que fut ma vie de travail, et parfois de misère, à travers trois guerres et des temps beaucoup plus durs que de nos jours. Cest pourquoi jai fait venir ma petite-fille Marie qui a appris la sténodactylo. Apporte un cahier et un crayon, lui ai-je dit, jai quelque chose à te faire faire, et cest urgent, car je ne sais pas le temps qui me reste à vivre.
Jean CAFIOU Mon grand-père, Papa Jean, comme nous lappelions, ma dicté son livre en 1945. Layant mis au clair, puis étudié, jai trouvé la tâche trop ardue et je lai laissé en attente. Trente ans plus tard, je lai relu. Tant dannées ayant passé, il ma semblé que ce témoignage de la vie des paysans pauvres avait pris valeur de document. Marie CARTIER-OBCOWSKI
