James Merrill (1925-1995), known as one of the leading poets of his generation, won nearly every award for poetry, including two National Book Book Awards, the Bobbitt National Prize for Poetry awarded by the Library of Congress, the Bollinger Prize in Poetry and the Pulitzer Prize.
