HARRISON (John Cyril, British artist best known for his drawings and paintings of birds, 1898-1985)

African harrier hawk.

Original watercolour over pencil. Signed with initials by artist bottom right. Undated but c1960s-70s. Framed and glazed. Size (frame): 40cm x 32cm / (sketch, excluding mount and frame): 22.5cm x 15.5cm.

Very Good to Near Fine condition. A couple of minor blemishes to frame. Small and light crease to paper.Please ask if you require a more detailed condition report, or view gallery images.

A lovely original watercolour of an African harrier hawk, sketched by acclaimed bird artist John Cyril Harrison (1898-1985).

John Cyril Harrison is known for his artworks which capture the movement of birds, especially in flight.

Provenance: From the personal collection of former Quaritch dealer Howard Radclyffe. Sketch taken from life - purchased from son of artist (as per note in Howards hand on rear of frame). Howard also states that painting relates to a more detailed study in Brown & Amadons Eagles, Hawks and Falcons of the World, volume 1, plate 46.
